You allow us to help young people like Chloe, a 19-year-old from Bristol, took part in a Money Ready Young Adults programme, delivered in partnership with 1625ip – a charity that supports young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. At the time, Chloe was struggling to secure safe and stable housing. While she felt she had a solid understanding of most financial concepts covered in the programme, she needed to work on her budgeting as she’d found herself in financial difficulties. Chloe was keen to live independently but her financial history was holding her back.
Chloe learned how to check if she was on the best energy tariff, switch providers, use smart meters, conserve energy safely, and understand energy schemes that could support her, like the Priority Services Register (PSR). She also gained knowledge about the risks of carbon monoxide and how to mitigate them
Initially hesitant, Chloe soon became an active participant, making excellent contributions to discussions and asking insightful questions, particularly during the budgeting and energy sessions. By the end of the programme, she had achieved her Level 1 Money Management qualification, proving her ability to budget, manage utilities, and maintain financial stability. This qualification played a key role in helping her secure a rental contract and move into her own flat, finally gaining the independence she had worked so hard for.
