Freddie Ewer, who passed away in July 2025, began his career in financial services as the very first intern at Redington, now part of Gallagher, before building a career spanning Gallagher, Royal London Asset Management and Insight Investment. In 2012 he co-founded RedSTART Educate with the belief that every young person deserves to feel confident and in control of their financial future. Throughout his career he became well known not only for his professional achievements, but also his generosity, warmth and commitment to helping others. RedSTART merged with Money Ready (previously MyBnk) in September 2025, expanding the reach of both organisations to learners aged 4 to 40.
Developed in partnership with Gallagher, Royal London Asset Management and Insight Investment, the three organisations at the heart of Freddie’s professional life, this new Money Ready programme is designed to help young people build confidence, capability and career opportunities.
Working with St Francis Xavier Sixth Form College in South London, Money Ready has carefully selected an inaugural cohort of two students who may otherwise never have had access to careers within financial services. They will rotate across all three partner organisations over six weeks, gaining paid experience of careers including operations, technology, compliance, client services and investment consulting. Alongside placements, participants will take part in structured sessions covering interview skills, CV writing, personal finance and career planning, and will receive mentoring, pastoral support, and travel and clothing bursaries.
Money Ready will evaluate the programme by tracking completion rates and gathering feedback from participants and partner organisations. Assessment will focus on what young people learned, what they valued most, and how the experience shapes their confidence, financial knowledge and thinking about their future careers. Follow-up check-ins at six and twelve months will measure lasting impact and help inform the growth of the programme in future years.
In memory of Freddie Ewer
Sarah Marks, Schools Programme and Delivery Director, Money Ready, said:
“Freddie believed that talent exists everywhere and that everyone deserves the opportunity to fulfil their potential. This programme turns that belief into action.
Freddie’s Programme launches at a time when access and opportunity remain deeply unequal. Research from the Institute for Public Policy (IPPR) shows two in five 18–24-year-olds have never completed any work experience, and that gap falls hardest on young people without professional networks. Our own research shows students carry the lowest financial confidence of any group we survey, and that gap follows them into the workplace, shaping how they negotiate, understand their pay and plan for their future. This programme brings together career access and financial education because the two are deeply connected.”
Sam Ewer, Freddie’s wife, said:
“Freddie was someone who genuinely believed in people. He had a remarkable ability to see potential in others and took great pride in helping people grow in confidence, develop their careers and pursue opportunities they may not otherwise have had.
That belief led him to co-found RedSTART and remained a guiding principle throughout his life. Seeing Freddie’s Programme created in his memory is incredibly special. I am deeply grateful to Gallagher, Royal London Asset Management, Insight and Money Ready for coming together to create a legacy that reflects who Freddie was and what he stood for. I hope the programme opens doors for many young people and inspires them to believe in themselves and their future.”
Tom Pilcher, Director, Gallagher, said:
“Many of us at Gallagher were lucky enough to have called Freddie a mentor and a friend. It’s an enormous privilege to support a programme that so clearly reflects his commitment to championing young people. Freddie believed deeply in the power of opportunity, and this initiative ensures his legacy lives on by helping more young people gain the experience, connections and belief they need to succeed.”
Tim Benjamin, Deputy Head of Client Relationship Management at Insight Investment, said:
“The Insight team has been keen to find a way to honour our memories of Freddie and we’re very proud to be supporting this initiative alongside Money Ready and the two other firms for whom Freddie worked during his career. This offer of an internship to encourage young people at the start of their careers feels in keeping with the values he held dear. We’re very excited to welcome our first two interns this week.”
